Archiving Policy
The Journal of Ethnic and Cultural Studies (JECS) is committed to the long-term preservation and accessibility of its published content. The journal employs multiple digital archiving strategies to ensure that all articles remain permanently available to the scholarly community.
LOCKSS and CLOCKSS Archiving
JECS utilizes the LOCKSS (Lots of Copies Keep Stuff Safe) system to ensure a secure and permanent archive for journal content. LOCKSS is an open-source program developed by the Stanford University Library that enables libraries to preserve selected web journals by regularly checking registered journal websites for newly published content and archiving it. Each archive is continuously validated against records from other libraries, so any damaged or lost content can be restored using those records or the journal itself.
The journal also participates in the CLOCKSS (Controlled Lots of Copies Keep Stuff Safe) archive, a geographically distributed dark archive that ensures the long-term survival of web-based scholarly publications. In the event that the journal ceases operations, the CLOCKSS archive will make the content freely available to all.

PKP Preservation Network (PN)
As a journal published using Open Journal Systems (OJS), JECS also benefits from the PKP Preservation Network (PN), a free preservation service that ensures the long-term availability of content for any OJS journal that meets its basic criteria. The PKP PN distributes archived content across multiple geographically distributed servers, providing an additional layer of security.

Digital Preservation Principles
JECS's archiving strategy is guided by the following principles [citation:6]:
- Decentralization: Multiple independent copies ensure that no single point of failure threatens the content.
- Continuous Validation: Content is regularly checked and repaired as needed.
- Local Custody: Participating libraries maintain local copies, ensuring ongoing access regardless of publisher status.
- Dark Archive Protection: CLOCKSS provides a safety net that activates only if the content becomes unavailable from the publisher.
